Recognizing the Small Things & Why Glimmers Matter
The other night, driving home, something unusual happened, I hit every single green light! It saved me five minutes on a late-night drive, but more than that, it made me smile. It was a tiny moment of ease at the end of a long day. A small “glimmer.”
Glimmers are those brief, positive cues that remind our nervous system that we’re safe, supported, or simply okay. They don’t need to be big or profound. Sometimes they’re as simple as catching a string of green lights, hearing a song you love, noticing the sunset or having that alone time before the rest of the family wakes up.
The magic isn’t in the size of the moment, it’s in recognizing it. When we start paying attention to these small cues, we gently shift our mindset. One glimmer a day isn’t about forcing positivity or pretending everything is perfect. It’s about allowing tiny moments of light to break through. Over time, these moments add up, reminding us that life isn’t all heavy or stressful. There are pockets of goodness woven into our days; we just don’t always notice them.
If shifting your mindset feels tough right now, try this simple practice- write down one small positive thing each day. It can be small, simple or even silly. Keep these notes in a journal or a “glimmer jar” and revisit them when things feel hard. Seeing those moments gathered together can be a powerful reminder of how much good quietly exists in your life.
You don’t need big wins to feel better, sometimes one green light at a time enough.
